Official opening of the Vortex

On Friday 9 October 2020, the official inauguration of the Vortex took place in the presence of a delegation from the Conseil d'Etat and the President of the FMEL Foundation Board, Chantal Ostorero, who spoke about the "Vortex effect" and the incredible enthusiasm of a very large public for this extraordinary architectural feat. Among the speakers was Jérôme Mercier, a student at EPFL, who spoke about the crucial role played by ambassadors in integrating new arrivals and promoting good living together. State Councillors Cesla Amarelle and Pascal Broulis, for their part, emphasised the need for affordable, quality student accommodation.

The event ended with a symbolic action: the planting of a Swiss-grown tulip tree, originally from North America, in the courtyard of the Vortex.
