The Vortex Race: a first that will be followed by others

The first edition of the Vortex Race took place on 25 November 2021. The 300 or so people who signed up to take part were delighted and all expressed their desire to come back !

The FMEL was delighted to be associated with this project to mark its 60th anniversary. Indeed, when Robin Favre and Paul Allender, two young sports science students at the University of Lausanne, proposed this slightly crazy race, the FMEL was enthusiastic and offered them its services in organising the event.

The two race organisers tell us how they came up with the idea: "We started with a crazy idea to use the Vortex ramp as a running course. Two years later, the idea has come to fruition and we're delighted to have created this event, which we hope will establish itself as 'THE' student race of the coming years! We would like to thank our 50 volunteers for their invaluable help, as well as the organising committee for their dedication, and the FMEL and Retraites Populaires for their support. This race is a nice nod to the 2020 YOG, as the Vortex was originally built for young athletes.

Given the success of this first edition, we're ready to bet that this race will become a regular feature in the annual events calendar for the Lausanne region and for the FMEL.
